Shoe Drive by ASWWU Global Service

January 08 - March 08

The Associated Students of Walla Walla University's (ASWWU) Global Service project has partnered with the non-profit organization Room to Read to implement its literacy program in an elementary school in Nepal, a project called "In His Name".

Our goal for the 2018-2019 school year is $35,000, for which Room to Read works with Grade 1 and 2 teachers, librarians, and school administrators to develop students' literacy skills.

This is a large amount of money, and as we were searching for unique ways to get students involved in the fundraising process, we discovered Funds2Orgs, an organization which gives us the challenge of fundraising 100 bags of shoes, with 25 pairs of gently used shoes in each.

These shoes will then be redistributed in Haiti and the Honduras where they are used to help individuals start-up their own small businesses, and we will receive $1000 towards our project!

This is a big challenge, but we believe that as a community, we can do it. If each person takes on the One Bag Challenge, taking on the responsibility of finding 25 pairs of used shoes, we will reach our goal with only 100 people.

For more information, click here.

If you want to donate, drop off shoes at ASWWU Offices 1st floor in Kellogg Hall at address listed below.
