Bus Crash on Deadman’s Pass
One of the most dangerous stretches of road in the Northwest, known as Deadman’s Pass in Northeast Oregon was the sight of a bus accident yesterday that claimed nine lives and sent over 20 people to area hospitals. A charter bus was carrying about 40 people from Las Vegas to Vancouver BC when it lost control on westbound I-84 in the mountains just west of Pendleton. The bus slid off the road and several hundred feet down a steep embankment. Rescue workers had to climb down to the bus using ropes to get people out and workers from over a dozen area police and fire units were on the scene to help.
