Church Embezzlement

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities are looking for a
California woman they say embezzled more than $700,000 from the
church where she worked for years.
The Press Democrat reports that Sonoma County prosecutors on
Wednesday filed 14 counts against Eleanor Zapanta, including grand
theft and forging business documents.
Prosecutors say the 51-year-old Zapanta worked as a business
manager for the Center for Spiritual Living of Santa Rosa when she
began making unauthorized check transactions in 2004.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Bill Brockley says Zapanta
embezzled $712,948 from the church in 250 unauthorized transactions
from 2004 through 2010.
Zapanta has not been arrested and prosecutors say they don't
know her whereabouts.
