Music - Owl City

WASHINGTON (AP) — Owl City's Adam Young says his pop music stardom is an answer to prayer, although it was scary at first.

The 26-year-old Young says he was a shy introverted "only child" from Owatonna, Minn., who never dreamed he could take the songs he produced in his parents' basement and perform them in arenas and on television.

When a growing internet fan base brought record companies to his door offering contracts, Young says he "prayed up a storm" because it was so far out of his comfort zone. In that way, Young says he feels like the apostle Paul — the "least likely" to have been called by the Lord — but he believes it truly was God's call.

On the Owl City tour bus, Young says he and his crew have been studying Paul's letter to the Romans before shows.

His songs "Fireflies" and "Good Time" have been secular hits. Other songs on his albums are more reflective of his faith.

Young says he's "a Christian who makes music" and is trying to live a life of integrity.
