No Raise For Yakima Police; Just Take Home Cars

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — The Yakima City Council voted last night to consider an ordinance that would give every police patrol officer a take-home cruiser they would use while off duty. The Yakima Herald-Republic reports the program to buy 74 new cars would cost $4.7 million. As part of the car deal, the patrol officers' union agreed to give up wage increases for the next two years.
