Obamas attend Holiday Concert

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says Christmas should be a time to share our blessings with the less fortunate, such as those in hospitals, shelters and battlefields far from home.

The first family attended Sunday's "Christmas in Washington" concert, which benefits the Children's National Medical Center.

In brief remarks, Obama said Christianity teaches that on Christmas, "a child was born so that we might have eternal life."

He said other faiths also teach that "we're all better off when we treat our brothers and sisters with the same love and compassion that we want for ourselves."

Before the show, Obama was accompanied by his wife, Michelle, and daughters, Sasha and Malia, as he presented a basket of books to four former patients of the medical center, who were dressed as elves.
