Ohio church helps poor in Kenya
AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A northern Ohio church congregation has taken
a five-day hunger challenge to raise money for the poor in Kenya.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports that more than 50 people at
Connection Church, in suburban Akron, ate nothing but rice and
beans for five days. The money they saved on groceries is being
sent to a Kenyan school that provides children with meals.
The Rev. Tony Myles joked that the diet "definitely messes with
your digestive system." He said the campaign also raised awareness
of the average diet of orphans in the Third World.
