JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Embattled Rep. Todd Akin says his decision to stay in the Missouri Senate race is "not about my ego" but about the voters of Missouri who chose him as their nominee. Akin appeared on NBC's "Today" show and ABC's "Good Morning America." Akin confirms that Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan personally asked that he step aside in the wake of his comments about women and rape.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Nine citizens are now responsible for deciding a legal battle between two technology titans, Apple and Samsung. The jury in Apple's suit begins deliberations today after last minute talks failed to reach a deal. Apple claims Samsung ripped off iPhone and iPad technology. Samsung says the technology at issue was developed before Apple made its top-selling products.

MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Isaac is winding up as it heads for the Caribbean where tropical storm warnings have been issued for a swath of islands in its path. The National Hurricane Center says Isaac is expected to strengthen even more and could become a hurricane by tomorrow.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (AP) — A Washington state man is due in federal court today after his arrest in connection with an email threat against the president. Authorities say Anton Caluori is also accused of brandishing a shotgun at officers who came to his door.

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — Fire crews have a Washington wildfire that destroyed dozens of homes near Cle Elum 90 percent contained. Fire spokesman Glenn Kohler says fire crews expect to have the Taylor Bridge Fire fully contained on Friday. Kohler says crews dealt with rough terrain and winds gusting to 25 mph yesterday. The fire has charred more than 36 square miles.



PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Benton County district attorney says officers were justified in their use of force against a suspect who exchanged gunfire with them on Aug. 11. Sgt. David Peterson and another law enforcement officer were shot while searching for California fugitive Demecio Cardenas, who had crashed a stolen car. Authorities say Cardenas fired at officers.
