Taliban Wants Good Faith Gesture From U.S. Ahead of Peace Negotiations
LAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) — The Afghan Taliban says a conciliatory gesture is needed ahead of any direct talks with Washington about peace in Afghanistan. The group wants five of its senior operatives released from Guantanamo Bay in exchange for U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who disappeared in 2009. Secretary of State John Kerry is expected to have a meeting with the Taliban when he travels to a conference in Qatar (GUH'-tur).
