WA Gov Wants To Extend Temp Taxes To Balance Budget
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Jay Inslee is proposing a mix of extending temporary taxes and ending some tax exemptions to address both the state's projected budget deficit and a court-ordered requirement to put more money into the state's basic education system. In his budget proposal released yesterday, Inslee's plan to repeal or modify about a dozen tax exemptions would bring the state more than $565 million. Inslee also calls to once again suspend voter-approved cost-of-living raises for teachers, saving the state $321 million.
