Pray for Chapman Family
Posted May. 15
The manager of Christian music star Steven Curtis Chapman is asking for Christians everywhere to pray for the Chapman family for the next two weeks as they pass two difficult milestones.
May 21 marks the first anniversary of the tragic death of Maria Sue Chapman, the youngest of the Chapman children, while May 13 marks what would have been Maria’s sixth birthday.
“For reasons only Our Mighty God can understand, she is spending it with Him instead of us,” remarked manager Jim Houser Wednesday. “Through the sorrow ... A Faithful God has held this family this year ... Please, please be in prayer for our friends these next 2 weeks.”
Houser made a similar call for prayer on Monday, following the marriage of Chapman’s eldest son, Caleb, over the weekend.
“[W]ith these hard dates ahead, we know the weeks ahead will be so heavy. I covet your prayers for the Chapmans,” he wrote in his personal blog.
It was on May 21, 2008, that Maria Sue, Chapman’s youngest child and one of three adopted from China, was accidentally and fatally struck by a sport utility vehicle in the driveway of the family's Williamson County home in Tennessee. The driver, 17-year-old Will Franklin Chapman, was returning home and did not see his sister running toward him to greet him.
The tragedy pulled on the heartstrings of believers across denominations, many of whom were familiar with the popular Christian music star whose songs have become a staple in contemporary worship services and on Christian radio stations nationwide.
The accident also led Chapman to consider the idea of not returning to the stage. After the tragedy, Chapman stopped touring and declined interviews.
But Chapman decided later to continue with his U.S. concerts, wanting to go forward and take the opportunity to share his faith.
Still, throughout the path toward healing, it has been hard for the Chapman family, who said only three months ago were they able to draw out “sweet memories” and no longer just tears when looking at photos of Maria.
“Our family isn't the same without her, it is like a chunk of our whole body is missing and the wound feels as though it will never heal,” commented Maria’s mother and Steven Curtis Chapman’s wife, Mary Beth, on Tuesday.
“I'm sad. I'm really really catastrophically sad,” she added.
“I would give anything to have her back ... to push rewind and go back and have this all be different, but because we can't .... We have to point others to the one who is singing Happy Birthday to her now,” she continued. “So as much as we can, we will use our suffering as a place where people see our Hope and our Faith.”
Though the Chapmans’ past year was marred by tragedy, it was also accompanied with joyous occasions, including Chapman’s “Artist of the Year” award from the Gospel Music Association and a number of family milestones.
“In the last 12 months, they have graduated 2 sons, married a daughter off, married a son off, and sadly buried a daughter too,” Houser noted Monday.
“Some nights like last night, we see this family smile and laugh and have fun again. It feels good,” he added.
Still, Houser asked supporters to pray for the Chapman family as they approach “the hard part.”
“I covet your prayers for the Chapman family today,” he wrote Wednesday.
Mary Beth, in her blog Tuesday, also asked for prayers – for her family as well as those who have lost a child.
“Please continue to pray for us, but also take time to pray for all families who have suffered loss, that Christ will meet them somewhere in their grief journey and they will encounter HIM,” she wrote.
And “[h]ug your little ones tighter,” she concluded.
Maria Sue Chapman was adopted two months after her first birthday from a Christian foster home in China.
The Chapmans have two other adopted children – Shaohannah Hope and Stevey Joy – in addition to their three biological children.

Tricks for Traveling
Posted May. 13
Here are some items to always pack with you when you travel.
Sorry for the delay in getting this brief statement out. As we say around the nb camp, “I’ve been flat out like a lizard drinking.” It’s been a busy time helping the lads with this transition, while at the same time finishing up the recording and mixing of the new CD in order to make the May 5th release date.
As you know, I have come to a decision that it is time to stop. I want to thank you for your prayers and encouragement! We have had many people write and call asking about my well-being. Thank you for your concern! I am happy to let you know that I am not dying of some sickness or disease, nor am I in some sort of moral or spiritual crisis (Glory To God!). There has been no band bust-up or punch-out! All is well! (Although now that I think of it, I did accidently render Duncan unconscious one time in a play fight minutes before a concert!) For me, the decision is that after traveling many thousands of miles across land and sea for over 22 years, along with needing to constantly keep writing and reach production deadlines–let alone feed my dog, It was time for something to give, and my booking agent and his GPS drew the
short straw!
What are my plans you ask? Well, at the moment, they are to encourage the lads in this here “passing of the baton” to Michael, as well as to continue songwriting, and most importantly, for Summer and I to continue doing what we are all called to do–that is reach the people that come across our path with the Love and Spirit of Jesus.
I want to thank YOU! For you have always welcomed me, from the early days of criss-crossing the USA in a beat-up, old dodge van, to traveling in trains, planes, ferries, ships, (and of course the occasional motorbike) into some of the most amazing places on this planet! Let me think: Morocco, Israel, Asia, UK, Europe, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, Russia and Uganda just to name a few. Seeing your faces and hearing you sing has blessed me. Again, many thanks!
Now, I need to ask you a favor. Please do the same for my friend, Michael Tait. Welcome him. Michael is a statesman in our industry, and he is who I have picked to carry on what I started as a teenager.
newsboys is more than a band to me. It is a group of people: men and women, husbands and wives, sons and daughters pooling together their gifts and talents, making many sacrifices, and believing that together we are all making a difference in telling the good news of the saving power of our Lord Jesus Christ to our generation. I am happy to say that this has not changed.
I will continue on with the band as friend, songwriter, cheerleader, and prayer partner.
Please enjoy the new CD, In The Hands of God. We poured our souls into it. I sang at the top of my lungs! It is for you!
A message from Bobby Michaels wife Lee, daughter, Rachel, and son, Jeff:
Our hearts are aching as we tell you that Bobby passed away this evening shortly after going into the operating room. Before the surgeons started the operation, Bobby's heart stopped with an instant "flat-line". The medical team tried for 45 minutes to resuscitate him but his heart did not respond.
We are deeply saddened by our loss...but rejoice that Bobby did get totally healed...with a new heart, kidneys, and any other part that might have needed fixing. The Lord knew the plans He had for Bobby...and today was his graduation day as he went to the One he loved the most and served so faithfully. We know he was carried away in the arms of Jesus.
Words cannot express our thanks for all the love, prayers, and notes of encouragement that have come to us by everyone who have been touched by Bobby's life. Our prayer for all of you is that you will experience the same peace and comfort that we have received from the Father.
We will let you know of memorial plans once these details have made. Thank you again for all of the love and prayers for our family.

Dr. James Dobson Steps Down
as Focus on the Family Chairman
Latest development in natural transition alleviates more administrative burden; will continue to appear on daily radio program
Colorado Springs, Colo. (Feb. 27, 2009) Focus on the Family’s James C. Dobson, Ph.D., has stepped down as board chairman of the ministry he founded 32 years ago, it was announced today.
His wife, National Day of Prayer Chairman Shirley Dobson, has also left the Focus on the Family Board of Directors. They have been elected to the positions of Founder and Chairman Emeritus and Director Emerita, respectively, for the nonprofit ministry they started in 1977.
The Dobsons’ decision represents the next step in a transition plan begun six years ago, when he stepped down as president in order to lessen his administrative burden. Executive leadership was handed to Don Hodel in 2003, and then to Jim Daly in 2005. Dr. Dobson had been board chairman until today.
The board of directors issued this statement: “One of Dr. Dobson’s objectives during the last decade has been to help identify the next generation of leadership for the ministry, and to see it established securely before he stepped away from administrative oversight. That purpose has now been fulfilled, and we applaud Dr. Dobson for this concern for the future of the ministry.”
Dr. Dobson’s other responsibilities at the ministry will not change significantly. He will continue the “Focus on the Family” radio broadcast, and handle other duties as in the past. He will also continue to write the newsletter, sent to 1.6 million people per month. He and Mrs. Dobson are anxious to devote themselves the joys of grandparenting.
“One of the common errors of founder-presidents,” Dr. Dobson said, “is to hold to the reins of leadership too long, thereby preventing the next generation from being prepared for executive authority. I have wanted not to make that mistake with Focus on the Family, which is why I stepped back, first from the presidential duties six years ago, and now, from board chairmanship. Though letting go is difficult after three decades of intensive labor, it is the wise thing to do.”
Jim Daly, Focus’ president and CEO, said the ministry will “forever be committed to the fulfillment of the mission so definitively served by both Dr. and Mrs. Dobson – helping families thrive.”
“The Dobsons have dedicated their lives to Focus on the Family,” Daly said. “He is my mentor and friend – and an inspiration and role model to millions of Americans.”
Dr. Dobson called Daly a “great leader.”
“We at Focus are blessed to have someone with Jim’s passion and skills, as well as a wonderfully experienced and intelligent board of directors. That fact gave me the courage to let them run the ministry. With God’s help, they will do it superbly.”
Assuming the chairmanship of the Focus board is Lt. Gen. Patrick P. Caruana (USAF, Retired), a board member since 1996 and vice chairman since 2006. Gen. Caruana, who served 36 years in the military, was Vice President of Northrop Grumman Space Technology from 2002 to 2005 and also served as Vice President and Program Manager for TRW Space & Electronics from August 1999 until the company was acquired by Northrup Grumman in 2002.

It's with sadness that we share the news of Jere D. Patzer passing away Sunday evening, October 26, 2008. He was a real friend and promoter of the ministry of Positive Life Radio. It's safe to say there likely would not be any Positive Life Radio in Spokane if it weren't for Jere's forward thinking and enthusiasm for the ministry.
Our thoughts are with his family, especially his son Darin and his family at this time of loss. Darin is a part of the Positive Life Radio staff - manager of 104.9/KEEH/Spokane.
A public memorial will be held Saturday, November 15, at 3:00 p.m., in the Meadow Glade Seventh-day Adventist Church, 11001 NE 189th Street, Battle Ground, WA 98604.
As a staff we're remembering Jere and praying for his family often. We're also looking forward to the heavenly reunion where there will be no more death and disease.

Bobby Michaels joined us for Sharathon '08 and he read an article about a martyred pastor from Zimbabwe. He read this on the air during the last day of Sharathon, Thursday the 18th of September. Here is a powerful part of the letter from this pastor who lost his life for his beliefs in our God:
"One young Zimbabwean pastor was martyred for his faith. Among his papers, this note was found:
I'm a part of the fellowship of the unashamed. The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. I'm a disciple of His and I won't look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still.
My past is redeemed. My present makes sense. My future is secure. I'm done and finished with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, mundane talking, cheap living, and dwarfed goals.
I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don't have to be right, or first, or tops, or recognized, or praised, or rewarded. I live by faith, lean on His presence, walk by patience, lift by prayer, and labor by Holy Spirit power."
Several people called in asking for this powerful letter and thanks to the internet, now you can read it all online. To read the full article online, go to the link for the Reaching Souls International E-Newsletter. Scroll down to the Zimbabwe Report.

Access Washington
Posted Sep. 4
Washington State lawmakers have created a new website that helps organize all the resources that are available to people of the state.
It's called Access Washington. The website has all different kinds of categories to help consumers.
State leaders want this site to help people make more informed decisions about insurance, child care, financial matters, health care, home care, licensing and all kinds of other areas.
Officials with the Department of Information Services helped make this site possible. Representative Marko Liias of Mukiltea is the bill's sponsor.
He said, "This is a thousand times better than what existed before. It's just one stop, a consumer can go there and it's organized by subject area... It's just clear and understandable."
The site is an effort to create a place for consumers to go to get safe and reliable information.

Two teenage boys trapped for several hours under ice and snow after an ice cave collapsed on top of them have been rescued near Snoqualmie Pass and are now in Satisfactory condition.
King County sheriff's spokesman John Urquhart says the teens are suffering from hypothermia. He said the 14-year-old rescued first had serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The 17-year-old rescued next was still being evaluated. After a few surgeries (mostly for back injuries) both boys are officially in "Satisfactory" condition.
A Navy helicopter was called to fly the boys to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Rescuers used chainsaws to cut through blocks of compacted snow and ice to reach the boys.
The teens were hiking with their mothers and two other girls when they were trapped at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Multi-Tasking Men Survey
Posted May. 19
Here are the survey results:
Is it possible for a man to multi-task?
No 41.7:%
Yes 60.4%
If you think it's even possible for a man to multi-task, can a man who doesn't currently multi-task be taught?
No 46.8%
Yes 53.2%
Gender Affiliation of people taking survey:
Women 60.4%
Men 39.6%
Additional Comments:
1. I think that men were created by God to be able to focus on single tasks (at one time). That doesn't mean that it is impossible for men to multi-task, it just means that they are better at doing one thing at a time.
2. I have many guy friends who try to multi task...they can do it on their own will power, and the only question it raises in my mind is the quality and efficiency at which the tasks are being managed. Scientific studies have been noted with results on this matter to show that while a man can multitask, he cannot do it as well as a woman, and thats just how God designed it. :D
3. Men can multi-task, but it is more difficult at home. I am a teacher, so I deal with students all day. Boys do have a harder time with multi-tasking, but they can learn to do so if instructed. My husband is a working shop foreman, so he needs to monitor other workers in addition to completing his own work. That was quite an adjustment, but he is doing the job with ease now. Just don't ask him to multi-task at home after doing it all day. He needs some down time!
4. I once took a certified 911 dispatcher pre-test as part of a college class. Of the class (~100) I received the highest rating for the guys, somewhere around 50% and I think that the lowest score for the gals was about 50% as well. My understanding is that because women tend to be wholistic in their thinking they are able to process multiple pieces of information at one time, whereas guys tend to be categorical thinkers, each piece of information needs to be processed individually. Is one better than the other...no not really, it's just that it comes more natural for a woman. Ultimately, anybody can multi-task, you just have to recognize how you personally think and process then run with it.
5. Men have been multi-tasking since the beginning. Take a look at men from ancient times to those before this modern era and you'll be surprised at the many things they were able to do and be. It's true women apparently have to be multi-tasking because of the many things nature and life request from them. We have to understand that men and women are complements of each other, meaning they perform different activities to complete a whole. For different reasons, I've seen that what made those men great, that spirit of manhood, and the things that were available to them are not present or happening nowaday in this modern era, thus turning us men into passive beings, laying in the hay and letting women take the lead. It's like saying there's stuff for women to do but not many for us. Fatherless risen boys is another factor to consider. Only a man can impart manhood to a boy, not his mother no matter how good she teaches him. In all, I think we are just unmotivated (just take a look at the percentage of men that have answered this survey), but I do believe we are still capable and that God designed us to be these great men we once were (minus the abuse and disregard women suffered).
6. I think that multi-taking, like driving and using a cell phone, is not really good. Split attention really does not allow good focus placed on the projects at hand.
7. We learned in church just this past week, that during the last week or so in the womb, the male brain is "washed" with testosterone. Prior to this, both the female and male brains have multiple "bridges" back and forth between the two parts of the brain. After the testosterone wash, the bridges in a male brain are reduce to only one. That's why women can multi-tax and men find it difficult.
8. Even a monkey can be trained! LOL
9. Just answer yes, nod or say 'hmm' to every question that they (women) ask.... It works for me most of the times....however, it's not always fun when they figure that out....
10. My husband is a phenomenal multi-tasker, especially in the kitchen. He has successfully prepared 4-course meals for large groups of people (in our church, at home, etc), always having it deliciously prepared and in place on time! He's a better multi-tasker at home than I am.
11. We can all learn to get along with the majority, of how people do things, but there is peace in order and structure. This is my preferred way of doing things-although I have seen men multi-task, it has only been while they are at work, deep into a project, but even then they are focused, although the task at hand varies. I enjoy Girdner's theory of multiple intelligences. It takes individuals out of the stereotypical learning box, and frees them to honor their personal intelligences. I like to mix his theory up with the birth order theory, and the right brain, and left brain theories.
12. I think that multi-tasking has a lot to do with mind interation. The severity of the task is also a factor in multi-tasking. A person man or woman is able to multi-task as long as focus is maintained.
13. God designed us with a single purpose thought process, so we can stay very focused on the task at hand, so we can complete it in a timely manor with perfection, or something like that. Uh-Rah.
14. Men cannot and can NEVER multi-task. It's a girl thing.
15. I saw a science program that said 2 tasks at once is the most that can be done at one time decently more than that and the quality drops off badly. It said it made no difference man or woman inspite of what most woman proclaim, it's a human brain thing. Do more than one thing at once and quality goes down. I worked at a radio station for a time, and I know you as a DJ are constantly multi-tasking.
16. The best you can hope for is that they don't spill their drink while watching the ballgame!
